On The Hunt: ZARA Sale

One of the things I love most about my birthday being around this time is that all of the best semi-annual sales re going on, so it's the perfect time to spend some of that birthday money. But even if it's not your birthday, there are some pretty amazing things at a fraction of their original price and the store that is really calling my name is ZARA. I've never been into shopping at ZARA, but oh dear, I went in the other day and basically fell in love with everything my eyes caught a glimpse of. Here are some of my favourite pieces!

Side note: Insider's tip from a friend who works at ZARA: Go on a Wednesday because they lower their prices every Tuesday (shhhhh, don't tell anyone I told you!)
zara sandals
Clockwise: Red Heels (stunning!) // Leather Sandals // Woven Sandal  // Blue Heels
I have this really weird obsession with high heeled sandals lately and ZARA is literally killing it with these ones! I'm looking to branch out from my usual black heels so these are a little bit more fun! All of them are on sale too, so #score.

The list of clothes that I'm drooling over is way too long but these are a few of the things that caught my eye. I've been staring at that coat in the ZARA window since like March so hopefully I can buy it on sale - so pretty! And as you can see, I still have to include some black clothing items because, well, black is the new black!

Are you eyeing up anything in the ZARA sale? I'd love to see what you pick up!

Side note: Happy Canada Day to all my fellow igloo livin', maple syrup lovin', poutine eatin' Canadians, eh! ;)

Top 5 Outfits of the Week

I thought today I'd share my 5 favourite outfits I've seen from the past week! As much as I love makeup, I had to give it a rest for a while and go out to replenish my summer style staples so there was definitely a lot of inspiration taken from good ol' Pinterest. Wanna see what I've been loving?

Yellow Perfection //
I've really been on the hunt for the perfect summery, yellow piece! It's not a colour I usually gravitate towards but with a golden glow, yellow is just beautiful. This looks pulls it off effortlessly by mixing in classic black and white and I seriously love it! Plus, the midi skirt is gorg in and of itself.

Laid Back with a Side of Cheetah //
I love Rachel Parcell from Pink Peonies, but this casual outfit is one of my faves. Rolled up jeans, cheetah clutch (love!) and bright flats - how can you go wrong? A nice orangey red lip and you've taken an otherwise simple outfit to a whole 'notha level!

Light & Airy //
Oh, Kat Tanita, your style is always on point! I love that she takes basic pieces and makes an outfit that still looks fab. As the weather gets warmer, light and airy is the way to go and this is seriously done right. Can I have the whole outfit please?

Minimalist Chic //
Everything about this is so good. I definitely need some boyfriend style jeans now! This is super relaxed but just throw on a pair of amazing pumps and you're good to go (walking all day in them is a different story, but beauty is pain, non?)

Blushing Beauty //
Last, but certainly not least, is this Jessica Alba outfit that had me gasping for air. Man, she is a beaut!  Love the fit of her jeans and that she's wearing blush, yes! Let's not forget to mention those sunnies - totally pulls it all together. I seriously love when people take casual and make it dressed up, best of both worlds, am I right or am I right?

Hope you're having a great start to the month of June (my birthday month!) and that you have a fantastic week!

Blue And White Floral... (& FOTD)

Forever 21 Floral Skirt (similar) // White Blouse (similar) // Enzo Angiolini Nude Pumps (similar) // Anne Klein Clutch (one I love) // Fossil Watch (similar) // Essie Watermelon

A fashion post? Yup, I thought I'd share what I wore for Mother's Day yesterday! I'm definitely not the biggest fashion girl but once in a while, I think it'll be fun to share my favourite OOTD's. But of course, makeup is the thing I love the most so here's what I wore on my face, too!

My look centred around this blue and white floral skirt that I got last summer at Forever 21. I'm so glad the weather was amazing because I haven't been able to wear skirts in what feels like an eternity. The rest of my outfit was clean and crisp with a white blouse tucked into the skirt, and nude heels with a nude bag. My style is pretty minimalistic so I never go too crazy with the accessories.

Like I've said before, I don't tend to wear eyeshadow on a regular basis, but it was a special occasion so this makeup look incorporates a bit more a smoked out bronzed eye. I paired it with a soft pink lip and natural looking skin for a done up, but not too over-the-top, look.

Face: Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in B30 // NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard // Illamasqua Sculpting Powder Duo // Tarte Amazonian Blush in Tipsy // Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette

Eyes: NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base // Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to The Bronze // Stila In The Light Palette ("Kitten" all over lid, "Gilded Gold" in the crease, "Sandstone" in outer corner) // Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner // L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof

Lips: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Born With It // Maybelline Color Elixir in Petal Plush

#PRESSDAYS at Lotus Leaf Communications F/W '14

Remember when I mentioned that something exciting was coming this week? Well this is it! Yesterday I had the incredible opportunity to take part in the #PRESSDAYS event at the Lotus Leaf office where media and bloggers alike were invited to take a sneak peek at what trends and new collections are coming up for Fall/Winter '14. I was extremely humbled by the fact that I was invited and had a great time! So let's cut to the chase, here's what's coming up next season! (get ready for a very long and picture heavy post... you've been warned!)

But first, let me take a mirror selfie!
Manitobah Mukluks
If there's anything that defines us as Canadians, it's the incredibly harsh winters we put up with! Manitobah is a brand that creates moccasins and mukluks to keep your feet warm and they definitely don't skimp on the cool factor! They stay true to their Aboriginal roots and a lot of their footwear is made right here at home. You can stick to a classic style or have some fun with colour and beading. Definitely take a look at their site!

Pink Martini
I'm in love! After seeing their Fall/Winter collection I knew I needed one of everything. Not only are the clothes beautiful and incredibly made but they are affordable! I'm so glad I discovered their brand because I'm thinking that I'll be browsing their site for a long while. This navy coat is on sale on the Pink Martini site... how cute!

Brika
This is a brand that really caught my eye. Their specially curated selection of handmade goods are things that you'll want to put on display and they support other peoples creativity, which I think is fantastic! I definitely want that YYZ pillow, although I'm more of a YYZ-ish girl myself ;)

Alex and Ani
I was so thrilled that Alex and Ani were featured at the event! I'd seen their bangles on a few bloggers on Instagram and I fell in live with their concept of mixing and matching different styles and metal colours, while also mixing the different meanings of each bracelet. You can customize each stack depending on who the person wearing it is and I think that is perfect for really personalized gifts! Their vision of sharing positivity in the world through they jewellery is awesome, and I'll definitely be adding these to my birthday wish list!

Upcoming F/W '14 pieces - love the earthy tones!
S/S '14 Collection on the left - perfect for adding colour to plain outfits!
Guess?
This Fall and Winter season, Guess? is mixing a Western and Glam feel with a bit of rock n' roll and it's gorgeous! There's lots of studs, tassels, fur and even some snake print so it's definitely a fun collection and there's something for everyone! I, of course, gravitated towards the sparkly jacket they had and I can definitely see myself wanting that white tassel dress (it comes in black too!)...

Henkaa
One dress, 2 sizes, 3 lengths, 24 colours, and over 40 ways you can wear it! I must say, it's almost a magical dress. It was amazing to see how quickly you could transform the dress and have a completely new look. With all the colours, you can achieve the perfect dress for whatever season it may be and any occasion. Their most exciting news was that they are now coming out with a new dress, the Iris convertible dress, that has sleeves so it widens the variety of looks you can get even further. This dress will come in 5 colours at first but they will surely expand to all 24 colours. Whether you need a go to dress, need a maternity dress, or even bridesmaid dress, look no further!

Watch It!
I love watches so much, so I was ecstatic when Watch It! gave us a peek at what trends would be coming our way and the brands that were going to be doing them! I'm pretty faithful to Fossil so I loved seeing their new watches but I was definitely intrigued by Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld. We are definitely seeing the Rose gold comeback in a big way, but it was included in a more subtle way and I think that's great, especially for guys out there! I also loved seeing navy, it was a bit unexpected but oh so pretty- and mixed with rose gold? Yup, we've got my new watch obsession!

The Guess watch at the top left... #swoon
The Marc By Marc Jacobs watches with navy faces were STUNNING in person!
Hillberg & Berk
If you love anything shiny and sparkly, this one's for you! I was stunned by the incredible pieces displayed by Hillberg & Berk and I loved that they had so much variety interns of their offering. Some pieces were super blingy and others were dainty, but they were all spectacular! It was definitely a joy to talk to H&B's Dina Holoien, she was super sweet and encouraging!

I was instantly in love with this!
Dr. Martens
I've never been one to be interested in getting Docs but from what I saw at the preview yesterday, they're really expanding their offering. It's not just about the classic, clunky boot that you associate with the brand, they do sandals, heels and silhouettes that are much more sleek! If you were never a fan, they might have a few styles that could change your mind!

Woah, did you make it to the end? If you did, congrats! I hope you enjoyed coming along with me to see what will be trending for F/W '14 and hopefully you found some new brands that you didn't know about, like I did! Besides the horrible rainy weather, crazy transit issues and my wet, curled hair, I had a fantastic day yesterday and it was really fun to experience something out of the norm for me!

Style Inspiration: Brighter Than The Sun

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's been getting tired of the monochromatic black and white look. Looking inside my closet I was flabbergasted at how much cream and black I had in there. Since Spring is right around the corner I needed to get a little style inspiration by way of Pinterest and all of the bright colours got me super excited for warmer weather!

1// 2// 3// 4// 5// 6// 7// 8// 9//

Last year I didn't get into the scalloped trend so this year I'm on the hunt for the perfect bright shift dress with scalloped details! Bright pops of colour really make an outfit so much happier and I love colour blocking with different shades. Definitely going to give it a try this season. Oh, and shoes! Hopefully Target brings back their leopard pumps and maybe even some pastel shades as well because I need to depart from nude and black heels for a while.
What looks are you excited to try this Spring and Summer?

Oscars 2014 Recap: Style, Highlights and Memorable Moments

Happy Monday to all! So it's the day after the Oscars and everywhere you look there will be best/worst dressed lists and Oscar coverage, and although I'd usually not join in because I don't watch most award shows (unless Leonardo DiCaprio is there... more on that later), I'm gonna hop on the bandwagon since I had way too much fun watching last night!

Oh dear, what a show! Let's start with a recap of the red carpet. I must say, I was incredibly impressed by the looks last night. Everyone, including the men, dressed to the nines and worked it! Here are my top picks and a few honourable mentions.

BEST DRESSED//

Lupita Nyong'o in Prada

Oh my word. When I saw her step out in this number it was enough to get my heart to stop beating. I've said this before and I'll say it again, she's a newcomer but she puts a lot of the people that have been around for years to shame. She has done no wrong every time we see her on a red carpet and last night was no exception. She described it as Nairobi blue and you know what, I'll take that! Give me anything in this shade and I'll be content. The dress is so simple but it was perfect for her princess moment - plus she is the spitting image of Cinderella especially with that headband. Perfect all around. Ok, I'll stop gushing.

Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace

Is that Kate Hudson looking like a goddess? Yes, you've got that right. Everything is just spot on with this look. The dress is incredible and that deep v looked like quite the trend last night. But can we talk about her beauty look? I mean, her hair and makeup are everything! Smokey eye, contoured cheeks and a subtle nude lip - yes, yes and YES! Not to mention the cape that actually looks good and doesn't bring to mind any Batman and Robin images at all. Total winner right here.

Cate Blanchett in Armani

The detail in this dress is so stunning! I will admit at first I thought this look was too monochromatic with no eye drawing pops of colour but I think that's what ultimately made me love it. There was definitely quite a neutral theme with nudes, whites and blacks scattered all over the place but this look stood out. The way it fits, the incredible sparkle it has, her honey coloured Old-Hollywood waves - can't be beat and she proved that by winning Best Lead Female Actress so you go girl!

Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra

I mean, come on! She tweeted about feeling like a fairy and that she was. This dress is magical. Of course everyone else was busy paying attention to the A-list starts who were being nominated but Mrs. Tatum could not be more stunning in this dress. Again with the neutral theme but the texture at the bottom of the dress and the beading from top to bottom make this such a showstopper, especially when paired with that intense broze smokey eye and face framing locks. Magic Mike? I'm pulling for Magic Fairy Princess!

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

Once again stunning in Dior, and once again tripping like it's her day job. She proves to us that we love her cause she's one of us - beautiful but ultimately a total klutz! It was a daring choice to go back to a simple red dress like the very memorable one from the 2011 Oscars by Calvin Klein Collection but this time around she looks much more refined. I loved the cut of this dress and how simple she was with the accessories, including a back draped necklace that added a beautiful touch (again like the one she chose for last years Oscars). Classic and beautiful!

Honourable Mentions//
These could have just as easily been Best Dressed picks since everyone was spot on but I wanted to limit myself a bit!

Olivia Wilde in Valentino // Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein // Emma Watson in Vera Wang

Out of all the pregnant women at the Oscars, Olivia Wilde takes the cake! Black was the perfect colour to go along with her precious baby bump and she looked incredibly stunning, including that amazing cat eye! Naomi Watts went for a safe choice but it's a choice that she does so well. The necklace pairing was beautiful and the black and white clutch was exquisite. She looked like an angel! Oh Emma Watson, look how far we've come. I loved this edgier look on her and I loved that although the silhouette was simple, the mixture of finishes in the fabric made the look a lot more interesting. I also loved the red lips and vampy nails!

Jessica Biel in Chanel // Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen // Maria Menounos in Johanna
Johnson

Another batch of beautifully dressed ladies. Jessica Biel keeping with the neutral trend in this beautiful Chanel frock. This dress hugged her in all of the right places without being too showy and it had just enough sparkle to catch the eye - plus she had enough sparkle from the incredible Tiffany's jewels she was sporting! Then we have Sandra Bullock who looked stunning and all that a Hollywood starlet should be. I loved the deep navy shade which was finally a little different than the shades of cream and black that flooded the red carpet. The way the fabric drapes is gorgeous and her flowing waves off to the side complements that draping so well. Last but not least, I'm a huge fan of Maria Menounos' look. The dress was perfectly beaded but the cap sleeves and waistline had that extra bit of embellishment that pushed it over the edge into gorgeous town! And that braided undo was just what was needed to distinguish her from the hair to the side and loose updos that everyone else chose.

All in all, people really hit the nail on the head this year! Loved it all!

Now.... Let's get to the good stuff. After all the fashion was scouted and people were done wiping their drool from the gawjusness that they just experienced, the show finally started! Of course, Ellen was laugh out loud funny in her monologue and she basically made the night what it was. Here are some memorable moments that even made it so far as to shut down twitter... twice!

Best Speeches:
Lupita Nyong'o -- "No matter where you are from, your dreams are valid" YES!

Jared Leto -- He love's his momma, and we love him for it! Sooooo cute. (btw, can we take a look at his fabulous balayage highlights?)

Cate Blanchett! -- "The world is round, people!" All I've gotta say is #girlpower. LOVE!

Then there was the Ellen pizza party in the middle of the show which was incredible! Brad Pitt looked like he thoroughly enjoyed that... and so did the very pregnant Kerry Washington! I was definitely hoping for Ellen to bring me some Oscar pizza while I enjoyed the show.

via// via
And then the moment which we will all enjoy for the rest of our lives and that broke twitter twice - the most EPIC selfie you've seen. Plus it broke the record for the most retweeted tweet on twitter (try saying that 5 times fast) with 2.2 million RT's and 1 million favourites. Wow! But seriously it's the perfect snapshot - Leto, JLaw, Lupita, Bradley, Channing, Brangelina, Spacey, Meryl, Julia. Yes!!!

via
Of course there had to be a few malfunctions, namely John Travolta butchering Idina Menzel's name right before her highly anticipated rendition of Frozen's "Let It Go". I'll admit I spent a good 5 minutes laughing about it. Apparently she's "the one and only" but that's not enough to remember her name. Oh boy!
And the best photobomb goes to *drumroll* Benedict Cumberbatch
via
I'm gonna end it off by the very saddest event of the whole night.... my beloved first movie star crush Leonardo DiCaprio must wait another 10 years before he can finally be handed a little golden guy. Not gonna lie I was pretty bummed but the pictures I saw on the subject were hilarious. Don't worry Leo, I'll always love you and unlike little Miss Rose I'll-never-let-go Dawson, I won't let you go! In the meantime. let's laugh it off!

Well there's your Oscars 2014 Recap filled with fashion, news worthy events and some pretty hilarious moments. I had a ton of fun watching it. What were your favourite looks on the red carpet?

Street Style Queens: Olivia Palermo & Miranda Kerr

As fun as it is to see super intricate and really out there looks on the runway, there's nothing better than some good ol' street style. Two of my favourite celebrities that do street style so well are Olivia Palermo and Miranda Kerr. Their looks are always put together and polished but have that "I just threw this on" effect. Olivia is always accessorized to perfection and has a more elegant touch while Miranda has the minimalistic and classic look trademarked. As a beauty lover I have to say my favourite part about street style is that the hair and makeup are usually pretty natural and laid back which paired with casual clothing makes for my favourite kind of look! Here are some of my favourite outfits!
