Nuit Rouge: Valentine's Day Red Lip

I'm so excited to be sharing the second part of my collaboration with {Meggie July} today! The other day I showed you how to achieve a fresh and subtle pink makeup look for your more casual Valentine's Day plans. If, however, you're not gonna be at home eating a box of chocolates while weeping through Titanic, I've got another option. I'm going to show you an equally easy, bolder look which includes one of my favourites - a bright red lip!

First things first, a red lip look looks as good as your skin does so take the time to perfect your complexion - this will ensure a really pretty base for the lip colour. Again I'm using the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation in 220 and a combination of concealers - NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger for spots and the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer in Buff to brighten the under eye area. I usually do blush and bronzer as part of the complexion step but I'll explain why I do it later in the next paragraph... Oh, the suspense!

Time to make your eyes pop! Grab a black liquid liner - my favourite is the Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Blackest Black to define my lash line. I'm definitely not the girl to ask about that signature feline flick that people seem to do so well, but I'm working on it. Instead I used the liner across my lash line going from a thinner line nearest to my tear duct and getting thicker as I swiped it along. Then you'll definitely need a good few coats of black, waterproof mascara! If your plan is to go on a date, you don't want to suddenly have raccoon eyes by the end of your date so waterproof mascara is the way to go. I used the L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black. Now to explain the blush  and bronzer dilemma! When I don't have any eye makeup or lipstick on, I tend to go a little overboard with the cheek products because I have no guideline as to how much colour I need to be adding to my face. With a bright red lip it's very important to add colour to your face with bronzer and blush, because or else you can look completely washed out. After my eyes were done I had a better idea of how much I needed to apply. I used the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise and then followed up by swiping on Smashbox Bronze Lights in Suntan Matte. I feel like this bronze is so under hyped but I really love it! It's matte which is perfect for this look and I can use it as a contour, as well as for adding an over glow to my complexion.

Last, but certainly not least, it's the star of the show - Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Big Bang. I know I've mentioned this before on the blog but goodness I love this shade of red! It's bright and catches peoples attention but it's not so crazy that you look like a clown. I don't fuss with lipliner or anything (ain't nobody got time of dat!) because with this I can get opaque coverage, while getting a bit of sheen with a few swipes. This lip lacquer is especially great for occasions like dates because it'll last for hours so no need to constantly be reapplying.

I hope you've enjoyed this collab and the outfits that Meggie has put together. {Here's} a link to the outfit she so beautifully arranged to go along with this look!

Enjoy today because God is giving you a new chance to live joyfully. Choose Him and choose joy! Happy Thursday (yay, it's almost the weekend!)
